Questions and privacy

What this page does, what it keeps and what it doesn't.

If you have found a child

I have found a child wearing one of these. What should I do?
Stay with the child, tap or scan the tag, and call the first number on the page. If nobody answers, work down the list, then tap “Share my location” so the family can come straight to you.
Do I need an app or an account?
No. The tag opens an ordinary web page in your phone's browser. There is nothing to install, nothing to sign up for and nothing to pay.
What is actually on the tag?
A web address, and nothing else. Tapping or scanning it cannot install anything on your phone or change any of its settings.
What happens when I tap “Share my location”?
Your phone asks your permission, and your position is then sent to every contact on the record so they can reach you quickly. Nothing is sent unless you tap the button and allow it.
The page cannot find my location. What now?
Call the numbers instead and describe where you are. Location often fails indoors; stepping outside and tapping “Try again” usually works.
Nobody is answering the phone.
Share your location anyway - it arrives as a text message, which someone may see before they can pick up. If the child is distressed or hurt, contact the venue staff or the police.
The page says the tag is not recognised.
The family may have switched that tag off, or the address may have been mistyped if you entered it by hand. Contact the venue staff or the police.
Does it work without a signal?
No. Both the page and the alert need mobile data or Wi-Fi, so move to where you have a signal if you can.

Privacy

What do you learn about me, as the person who found the child?
Nothing beyond what you choose to send. You are never asked for your name, your number or any other detail, and sharing your location sends a position only - it does not pass on your phone number or let anyone call you back.
Is it recorded that I looked at this page?
No. Opening the page is not logged against you or the child. A record is written only when you choose to share your location.
What is stored when I do share my location?
The position, how accurate it was, the time, which tag was scanned and the wording of the alert that went out. It is kept so the family can see the alert in their message log afterwards.
How long is that kept?
For as long as the family's account exists. Closing an account removes the children, the tags and the messages held with it.
Do you use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers?
There are no analytics and no advertising trackers anywhere on this site. The only cookie used here remembers the language you chose; parents who sign in also get a cookie that keeps them signed in.
Who can see a child's details?
Whoever holds the tag - that is the whole point of it, and why the page carries only what a stranger needs in order to help. Each tag address is a long random identifier that cannot be guessed, and these pages are kept out of search engines.
Is any of this shared with anyone else?
It is never sold and never used for advertising. It is handled only by the hosting, database and messaging providers that run the service and deliver the alerts.
Can a shared location be removed?
It sits in the message log of the family whose tag was scanned and goes when their account is closed. Nothing else about you is held at all.

For parents

What does a finder actually see?
Your child's name and age, any note you have added, and the name, relationship and phone number of each contact on the record. Nothing else: no address, no school, no date of birth and no email address.
Why do you need a date of birth?
Only so that the age on the page is right. The age is worked out afresh on every scan and the date itself is never shown, so a tag printed today still reads correctly in three years.
What do I receive when a tag is scanned?
A text message to each contact's phone with a map link to the finder's position, and the same alert in your message log when you sign in. Alerts are written in English.
A tag has been lost, or my child has outgrown it.
Switch that tag off in the parent area and it stops working straight away. A tag address is never reassigned to another child, so an old tag can never start pointing at someone else.
How do I get an account?
Accounts are set up for you at present - there is no self sign-up yet. Once your email address is on the record, the “forgotten password” link lets you set your own password.
Can I read the alerts sent to the other contacts?
No. Each person's message log shows only what was sent to them. Managing a child's record is not a licence to read what was said to anyone else on it.
Why is the parent area in English only?
The scan page is translated because whoever finds a child could be anyone. The parent area and the alerts go to your own family, so they stay in one language.
